Web Design From Scratch

I’ve stumbled across this excellent web design guide while looking through the website in my previous post and I thought I just had to share it with you. Web Design From Scratch covers about 14 different topics, ranging from the design process to copy writing. After reading only a couple articles, I know I’ll be referring back to this site always.

In some of the design process articles, Ben Hunt stresses simplicity. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel, don’t try to be innovative. Chances are you’ll fail. Most new things do. Don’t strive for perfection, either. It takes too much time. I know I’m guilty of this. I fiddle around with the design for hours, then end up changing it back to the way it was!

I also liked his article about design and functionality as evolving entities. Design spreads like a virus and rapidly changes. Functionality, on the other hand, evolves much more slowly. It’s safer and more efficient making a site work than it is making it pretty. Functionalty is necessary, where as design is not.

He’s even got some good tutorials! Go here and check it out!
