Making a Wordpress SideBlog With del.icio.us
October 25th, 2007 in web development | No Comments
I didn’t really like my previous implementation of the sideblog because I couldn’t easily create an RSS feed, and I hadn’t made a view that showed previous entries. Since my switch to Flock for casual browsing, I’ve decided to use del.icio.us for my sideblog (Flock has built-in del.icio.us bookmarking).
I’ve made a widget (mostly by copying the default WordPress RSS widget) that takes my del.icio.us feed and shows it in my sidebar, plus an additional text ad. This solved both of my previous problems: there’s now a feed and a page that shows the existing entries. As a bonus, I only have to bookmark pages once! Before I’d have to write up whatever entries I wanted to show in WordPress itself.
Note: this post was written using the Flock blog editor. Let’s see how it turns out.
